A residential school program for overweight adolescents that costs more than $5,000 monthly was mentioned recently. Just thinking about it should make you lose some weight, haha. These plans follow the same general outline as the most popular recommendations: a regimented diet and regular exercise. College preparatory classes and counseling services should be available. Well, how about those children? Is the school setting providing them with a realistic opportunity to adopt healthy habits that will last a lifetime, or are they merely being herded into submission to be eaten by the wolves once they leave?
I looked for success stories of kids who had finished these programs and established healthy lifestyles, but I couldn't find any. If you're feeling stuck and don't know what more to do, I did locate some alternative suggestions.

First things first: find an activity—indoors or out—that your youngster enjoys doing for exercise. While most overweight children may not be overly enthusiastic about sprinting and jumping, what about riding a bike? Using a Global Positioning System (GPS) while trekking is another concept I'd want to test out. Geocaching seems like a ton of fun for outdoor enthusiasts, and anyone can do it. While adventuring in the local forests and hills, adults have reported shedding twenty, thirty, or even forty pounds. Concurrently instructive in mathematics, physics, and science, learning to use a GPS is a win-win.
I think it's important for parents to enroll their children in martial arts classes if they exhibit any interest. Martial arts not only teach self-defense, but also discipline, respect for authority, confidence, and self-esteem in children.

One positive example is my son. Even though he was never overweight, he did have saggy skin at the age of 13. I have faith that he will maintain his new, better lifestyle going ahead because he is self-assured, popular, and liked.

We gave karate a shot, but he hurt his wrist while practicing at school and never wanted to go back.
